I always considered myself a Bronze age girl, but Iron Age had some appeal as well. Some parts of Iron age were so turbulent and that kind of history is my favourite. The best part of Iron age is the architecture of the city walls. Man, they were crazy about fortification back in the days.

So when you are invited to excavate the site that was inhabited mostly or only in the Iron age you know what to expect.

On the surface of the site there are serious rocks and wall remains, so our first week we mostly had to remove heavy rocks, try to determine the position of the walls, sift some, or any dirt that we could find in search for pottery or other small finds, but mostly move rocks.

Second week is almost done and I am surprised with the progress so far. Every field has two squares opened and they are all digging up deeper and deeper. Most of the fields have found one or several walls (it is not a competition but yes field C is leading)

In our field B we found a wall in one square and a wall in the other. So far we are still determining the walls, there are many loose rocks that have fallen down so we are cleaning the dirt trying to determine which stones are in its original position and which were moved.

Our Jordanian workers are young and strong, they lift those heavy rocks like a joke. I am really sorry we didn’t have their help during our first week. My body wouldn’t be in so much pain if we had them. Last couple of days felt great. Because of my supervisor position I had to spend more time writing the data, taking photos, drawing top plans and all that stuff so the students and the workers have a feeling I am a boss and don’t let me work too hard.

Tomorrow is my last day at the site. Time flew by. I must return to my country, back to the desk job, back to reality and we just started finding cool stuff!!

Today was the best day ever. I never imagined I would find such a thing but it happened. Right now I am not allowed to share more details, but when the time arrives I will post the photos.
