The Royal Tank Museum

When you find yourself in Amman there are so many places to visit. Although it may not be the first thing on the list I highly recommend the visit to the Royal Tank Museum. Some find it boring to visit the specialized museums (if you are not so much interested in the topic) but this museum brings so much more than “tanks”.

The museum gives a detailed information about every single display. It is interactive and most of all for all our historically obsessed people it is ordered chronologically.

The building itself is very interesting. The architect Zaid Daoud explained that the architectural concept was inspired by the old desert fortress of the 1800’s and 1900’s but he decided to modernize it with a “stealthy” 21st century concept. This building is bulky and contemporary. One of my favourite modern buildings in Amman, for sure.

The museum offers a great opportunity to learn more about the tactics of wars and battles, tank engines, different modifications, size and weight.

Although it is a tank museum there are so many vehicles and machines represented here. It offers an exciting journey through history both local and global and explains how wars were fought.

The museum is dedicated to Jordanian history, present day and future. I honestly believe that if we learn more from the past we will have a brighter future.
